The annual update of the ICD 10 diagnostic code has been made in CMBHS to ensure consistency between various state data systems, your local systems, and TMHP for those of you that submit claims to TMHP.

Twenty-five (25) codes used on Axis I that were previously not active in CMBHS have been added, sixteen (16) codes used on Axis III have also been added and fourteen (14) codes that were active in CMBHS have been expired as indicated in the tables below.  These changes have an effective date in CMBHS of 10/1/2016.

CMBHS will adjust the version of codes that display depending on the Date of Service or Performed on Date that you enter for a diagnostic document.  If you create a document with a Performed on Date of 11/01/2016, the new diagnostic codes will display. If you create a document with a Performed on Date of 09/28/2016, the old diagnostic codes will display. The date you enter or edit the document in CMBHS does not impact the code version that displays, only the date that you provided the service to the client matters.

Additional Examples

Service Date                                              Diagnostic Codes that Display

09/28/2016                                          Old diagnostic codes

10/01/2016                                          New diagnostic codes*

10/04/2016                                          New diagnostic codes*

10/21/2016                                          New diagnostic codes*

*Because there is a one month gap between the effective date of the updated codes (10/01/2016) and the date the codes were actually made available in CMBHS (11/01/2016), users have had to document some diagnoses before the updated codes were available. No change is required to most of the documents created during the gap. If a change is required, you will receive an error message. This may occur when you try to submit a claim for payment to TMHP. Follow the directions in the error message.

Financial Eligibility Assessment for NorthSTAR

A correction has been made to the Financial Eligibility Assessment used by NorthSTAR substance use disorder and mental health service providers.  In the past, CMBHS has allowed some service providers to change, usually to extend, the Financial Eligibility assessments Expiration Date even though this was not allowed by the business rules. These users can no longer change the Financial Eligibility Assessment Expiration Date.

If there is a situation where you believe that the Expiration Date of a client’s Financial Eligibility Assessment should be changed, contact ValueOptions staff as they are able to change the Expiration Date when appropriate.
